Signals, bandwidth, latency, copper vs fiber vs radio

Networking begins below packets. Bits are represented by physical phenomena: electrical changes in copper, pulses of light in fiber, or electromagnetic radiation over radio. Bandwidth, latency, attenuation, noise and duplex behavior determine how much information can be moved and how quickly a receiver can distinguish it.
