TLS handshake, certificates & the chain of trust

TLS provides confidentiality, integrity and server authentication for HTTPS. A browser validates the server certificate chain, negotiates cryptographic parameters, and establishes symmetric traffic keys. TLS 1.3 reduces handshake complexity and removes several legacy algorithms, but the core idea remains: authenticate the peer and establish shared cryptographic secrets safely.
